RECREATIONAL & COMPETITIVE CLASSES

South Metro Dance Arts Center is proud to offer classes in both Competitive and Recreational styles.

Recreational Classes

  • Our recreational classes run for the full school year. Classes begin on September 12 and run weekly through May 25. Each class will meet once a week on their scheduled evening & time. Our calendar is based off 30 weeks and our tuition is divided by 9 months.
  • Dancers entering Preschool, Age 3-4, through Kindergarten will explore Ballet, Tap and Creative Movement. Students will develop basic dance skills by participating in social, physical and creative activities, all in a fun and enriching environment!
  • Dancers entering 1st Grade will explore Ballet, Jazz and Tap combination classes. These classes focus on further developing skills in these three styles of dance while also working on building strength and flexibility.
  • Dancers entering 2nd-5th Grade are eligible for any of our 2nd-5th grade classes that correspond with their grade. We have a variety of styles available: Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theater & Tap. Classes are offered in a variety of combinations.
  • Dancers entering 6th-12th Grade are eligible for any of our 6th-12th grade classes that correspond with their grade. We have a variety of styles available: Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical & Tap.
  • Dancers in 5th grade and younger classes will have the opportunity to perform in our Jenni Buth Memorial Show in February/March. 
  • All recreational dancers will perform in our end of the year recital in late May/early June.

Combination dance Classes

Dancers entering Preschool through Kindergarten will explore Ballet, Tap and Creative Movement. Students will have the chance to develop basic dance skills by participating in social, physical and creative activities, all in a fun and enriching environment! 

Dancers entering 1st Grade will explore Ballet, Jazz and Tap combination classes. These classes focus on further developing skills in these three styles of dance while also working on building strength and flexibility.  

Jazz Dance Classes

Jazz classes are available in a combination style (paired with another class style) to students entering the 1st Grade or higher. These classes focus on further development of Jazz Technique skills, along with strength and flexibility training.

Ballet Dance Classes

Individual Ballet classes are available to students entering the 2nd Grade and older. These classes will train dancers in the development of technical Ballet skills. Ballet will further develop the dancer’s technique in all styles. 

TAP dance Classes

Tap classes are available in a combination style to students entering the 1st Grade and older. These classes focus on the development of Tap skills in both traditional and  rhythm styles. Tap is a great way to challenge our brains. 

Lyrical Dance Classes

Lyrical is style that combines ballet and jazz dancing techniques. This style focuses on expressiveness of emotions such as love, joy, hurt or anger. Lyrical dance tells a story through dance. 

Hip Hop Dance Classes

Hip Hop combines Jazz/Funk with “street-style” movements. The high energy of hip hop makes it a fun class for students of all levels. No prior dance experience necessary. 

Competitive Classes

COMPETITION COMPANY LINES

Company Lines are available to students age 5 to 18.

Company Line time commitment is based on age and technical ability and range from 2 hours per week to 9 hours per week.

Competitive dancers will compete 2 to 6 dances. Competition dancers learn all styles of dance including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theater, Hip Hop and more. 

Competitive dancers will compete at 3 to 4 regional competitions throughout the year as well as a National competition. Some travel is required. 

Separate fees apply to dancers in Company Lines.
